Relax and get away from it all…
Five kilometres from Lake Bled but in a world of its own, the Hisa Sonca is a great place to really get away from the stresses and worries of modern day life.
Come and rekindle your relationship in a quiet, sleepy hillside village that is ideal for time alone, long relaxing walks and stunning alpine countryside.
Petra is a kind and inviting host who will welcome you warmly and encourage you to spend a few days unwinding in her beautifully renovated apartment, the Hisa Sonca (or Sun House).
A woman of many talents…
What makes Petra’s apartment even more amazing is the fact that she has used her creative and artistic talents to renovate the apartment almost entirely on her own.
The stone floors, the elaborate mosaic work and even items like the vases have been crafted with her very own hands.
Petra is also the masseur to the Slovene Rowing Team and can offer a soothing and relaxing massage on request if desired. She really is a woman of many talents!
A traditional Slovene home….
On entering the apartment, the stone mosaic floors and wooden doors immediately reveal its appeal. The main room to the left is a combined living and dining room and contains a table and chairs, a wood burning fire, sofas (which could also be used for sleeping) and of course plenty of traditional Slovene touches.
The bedroom has a compact but comfortable bed for 2, and the step down kitchen is very well equipped with all the utensils one would expect, a small fridge (no freezer), a 4 ring hob and even a wood burning oven. The spacious bathroom has a shower (no bath), radiator, washing machine and more of the beautiful handmade stone and mosaic work.
Just what the doctor ordered!
It’s serenely peaceful and one could easily while away days just admiring the views and taking walks in the nearby Radovna Valley or to the Mežakla Plateau. Vintgar Gorge is a short walk from here.
A car is a must if you wish to stay here. The nearest bus stop is in Spodnje Gorje and then a 2km uphill walk awaits you. However, by prior arrangement, the owner is able to collect you.
In short, Hiša Sonca is a gem. If you want total relaxation, without mod-cons (note – no television), peace and tranquillity in comfortable surroundings with a sense of traditional Slovene living, then this is the place for you.
As far as accomodation goes, this was the highlight of my trip! Located in farm country, it is a quick drive (or long scenic walk if you are like me,) from Vintgar Gorge and Lake Bled .
The owner, Petra , was very friendly and very accomodating. She even came out to find me when I got lost. (If you program the correct address into you GPS, this should not be a problem.)
This is more of an apartment than a hotel. You get a wide open living room, a small bedroom, full kitchen, and a bathroom which is all in the basement of Petra 's house. Free wireless internet was offered here as well.
It was such a quaint and beautiful place, I was almost tempted to find a job in Bled, and ask Petra how much she would charge me live there permanantly.
45 Euro per night seemed like steal to me. Anyone spending any time in Bled should stay here (unless it is during the second week of Semptember. That time belongs to me!)

We left Hisa-Sonca after our three days there and I am happy to report that it was an excellent choice. We enjoyed the quiet and quaint setting and it was not far from Bled at all. Thanks for the recommendation!

Next, we headed for Bled, for our accommodation called Hisa Sonca. It is a nice traditional Slovenian cottage up on a hill, with a wooded floor, low ceiling and even a traditional wood stove! The cottage was nicely furnished with colourful tiles that gave the place a cheery feel. The bathroom was big with nicely decorated walls!
