The Hotel Bau awaits you in Maribor!
We were dropped off at the Hotel Bau and immediately noticed that the building has been recently repainted in an uplifting yellow and white with the Hotel's Logo emblazoned on the side for everyone to see.
One of the hotels greatest advantages is that it has lots of parking around the building for those arriving by car.
As we entered the hotel, we were warmly greeted by Simona Bau who immediately put us at ease and offered us coffee in the courtyard. The hotel sits on a main road just west of the city centre and has great views of the Pohorje when facing south. After our coffee, we were shown up to our room for the night. The Hotel has both an elevator and stairs and guests use a card to enter the rooms and activate the lights.
Great clean, spacious and modern guest rooms
We stayed in a premium room that was very spacious and had a very high ceiling. The room was very clean and the bathroom was spotless. Everything in the room worked well, including the TV and Air Con. The bathroom has a shower only and the water pressure and hot water supply were excellent. The beds were also very comfortable and we had a very good sleep overnight.
Our room was facing south so we had an excellent view of the chairlifts going up the Pohorje.
They have a choice of single, double, triple and family rooms on offer and the rate includes breakfast, parking and internet use. The premium rooms have air-con and wireless internet while the standard rooms have cable internet and these rooms cannot be accessed by lift. Lunch and Dinner are available at an extra cost and they can also handle pets if you are bringing yours along which is very handy indeed!
Start the day at the Bau!
The next morning we came down for breakfast which is found in a large breakfast room in the basement. Served between 7 and 9, the Hotel offers a great continental buffet breakfast complete with fresh bread rolls, cheese, salami, ham, croissants and fruit. There was some hot food like eggs and 2 machines took care of the coffee&tea plus orange juice. There were a couple of other families enjoying the breakfast when we were there and staff were prompt to replenish anything on the table that was running out.
Great facilities at hand…
Walking around the Hotel, it also has a nice reception and waiting area and a medium sized conference room with all the facilities needed for a meeting. The wellness facilities are great and include a relaxing Finnish Steam Room, plus a Turkish Sauna and heated benches for lying on. The facilities are available during the colder months from September onwards.
The Hotel is about 5 minutes by car from the city centre and set in a quiet residential, semi rural setting. There is a bus stop out front of the Hotel for those without a car and taxis are easily available.
Maribor has a quiet and laid back vibe and is a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of Ljubljana in both feel and atmosphere.
Enjoy the Lent area and the old town centre. Nearby Pyramid Hill is a favourite outing for locals and you should definitely take a trip up to the Pohorje if time permits.
Come and take a bow at the Bau!
Simona and her staff were really friendly and willing to help us with any query we had regarding what to do and see in Maribor.
We had a very enjoyable stay and would highly recommend the Bau to couples and families.
