Where is Lipica and how do I get there?
Lipica is located in south-western Slovenia in the famous Karst or Kras region.
Lipica is not served by public transport so is ideally suited for those who have their own vehicle or
for those who can arrange transport to Lipica.

Dependance Annex of Maestoso
The Dependance is located in an annex building 50 metres from of the Hotel Maestoso and offers 12 basic comfortable twin rooms with shower for the budget conscious traveller.
All bookings are handled by the 24 hour reception at the Hotel Maestoso and guests also have access to the Hotel Maestoso's facilities.
The Dependance is only open during MAY - SEPT. in 2013.

What's there to do at Lipica?
At Lipica
Stud Farm Tour
Taken with the performance or on its own, the 50 minute stud farm tour at Lipica takes you behind the scenes and into the world
of the Lippanzer. Visit the famous yard, the mansion and Velbanca, the oldest stable at Lipica. Interact with history in the Lipikum
Museum where everything is explained in bright and colorful displays. The highlight of everyone's tour is the chance to pet the beautiful mares and
foals out in the paddocks.
Riding Lessons
Of course many who stay here come because they want to take expert horse riding tuiton from the world class instructors here at Lipica.
Lessons must be booked in advance (click here to email Lipica to book, mention Sloveniaforyou), and are usually conducted in groups of 3-6
in 50 minute blocks but individual tuition can often be arranged.
Most people take advantage of the package deals offered by the hotel which may include say 5 lessons and other activities over a few days.
Lippanzers in Training
The classical riding school of Lipica is the pride and success of the Lipica Stud Farm. See how the horses and their riders train for the main performance.
It is a special insight into the work of the best stallions of Lipica and enthralls nearly everyone who attends. Combine with a tour or performance for a great day out!
Lippanzer Performance
See the end result of years of hard work on the training ground in this brilliant performance.
Thousands come very year to see selected stallions impress with their elegant steps,
noble appearance and other surprises! The show lasts for 45 minutes in the main arena.
Carriage Rides
Travel the surrounding roads and paths around the Lipica estate while taking your very own horse carriage ride.
Book in advance to enjoy this unique experience. 4 people can be accommodated in each carriage.
An original 100 year old Landauer carriage is also available for hire and combined with a stop for a traditional Karst
lunch, this is an experience you're sure to remember.
Kids Pony Rides
Pony-riding is intended for the youngest guests to Lipica! Our guides will explain how ponies communicate and how to approach and touch them.
Children will ride a pony accompanied with our guide and it is an experience that is sure to be a highlight of their holiday.
Avgust Cernigoj Art Gallery
Avgust Cernigoj was an artist from the Karst region who has left an indelible mark in the history of Slovene fine art.
His life and work was closely intertwined with the history of the Karst Littoral region and therefore retains a special place here at Lipica.
Come and see his gallery which includes over 1,400 works. A small entrance fee is required.

Nearby Lokev is a sleepy village that has a surprisingly good selection of dining options and is a favourite stop for tour groups
who come to taste the famous proscuitto and Teran wine. Lokev is an easy ride from Lipica.
Osp
One of the oldest villages in Slovenia, it is famous for its rockwalls and the many climbers who come to climb them.

Ice Skating Rink
In winter have some fun at the skating rink which is just near the Hotel. Entrance is free but take note that the rink is closed on days
of really bad weather. Open MON-FRI 1100-2000 and SAT-SUN 1000-2100.
Golf
Another major drawcard for Lipica is their golf course. Described as a "superior" course, the Klub Lipica has over 400 members
and the course is well known as being the only course in Slovenia that can played on all year round.
The links offer a par 73, 9 hole course (repeated twice) with dual driving practice ranges and putting and chipping greens.
prices range from 26-42EUR per game and trolleys\cars and clubs are available for hire. There is a nice club shop as well.
Mini Golf
For a bit light-hearted fun, try the 18 hole course near the golf course proper. Go to the club shop to buy tickets.
3EUR for a game and it is open 0800-2000 daily.
Fitness
The Hotel Maestoso has a fitness room if you need to keep up your routine away from home.
Kids Playground
There is a small playground at the hotel.
Casino
There are more than 360 modern slot machines at Grand Casino Lipica with games including Electronic Roulette, Black Jack and Poker.
For traditionalists, there is a gaming saloon with American and French Roulette, Punto Banco, Black Jack, different types of Poker including Texas Hold'em, Craps, Keno and Bingo.
The thematicallly designed Casino Lipica also hosts many events with international stars. Slots open daily for 24 hours, tables vary from 1500-0300. Come down and try your luck. Minimum age - 18 years.
Cycling
At the hotel you can hire bikes to enjoy the many trails around Lipica and routes in the Karst area.
Cycling is especially beautiful in Spring or Autumn when you can take in the colours of the season.
The area around Lipica is flat and generally traffic free so there are many great paths for families to enjoy.
Serious riders can find sanctuary nearby with the ups and downs of the Karst Plateau combining with the many coastal routes.

A strategic stronghold in ancient times because of its position high above the Karst, Socerb is famous for its Castle and Holy Cave, the only underground church in
Slovenia.

A really nice example of a roman and medieval hilltop village that looks just as untouched today. See the churches, houses and the Ferrari Gardens.
Trieste
Trieste is a typical bustling Italian city that also has a lot of history to tell. A great choice for a day trip.
